the roaring 20s…

Reading The Great Gatsby in one of my literature classes, for probably the umpteenth time, but it never fails to fascinate.  The pared down opulence of the twenties had me really loving the SS2012 Ralph Lauren collection.  Unsurprisingly he did the the costumes for the original film adaptation of Gatsby.  I’m sure Baz Luhrman’s upcoming adaptation, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular character, Carey Mulligan as Daisy, and Tobey Maguire as the narrator Tom Carraway, will take some costume cues from Lauren.

Also, the fashion of the 20s makes for awesome Halloween costumes.  I haven’t picked a theme yet but this seems totally wearable past the night of, don’t you think?

Also reminded me of the beautiful shoot that Grace Coddington put together for Vogue a few years back that was featured in the film The September Issue…as well as this archival photo that popped up on Vogue.Com today…

click your heels together…

Guess what I spied over at Miu Miu today?  Sapphire slippers.  I’m in love.  Someone get me some chocolates and flowers so I can woo this beauty into my closet.

The banana heeled pumps were also lovely, and I’d get both if I could…the pressure is on.

PS Ignore the shitty phone camera…okay thanks…

dog lovin’

In the midst of taking a few shots of today’s outfit for the blog I cruised onto Style.Com and saw their little gallery of women’s best friend and their companions.  The humans that is.  But no, really, it was so cute that I decided to include two of the photos that my pup snuck into.  Happy almost end of Monday!

more epaulette action

(Under Cover Jacket w/DIY Epaulettes, T by Alexander Wang Tank, Kimchi Blue Pajama Shorts, Theyskens’ Theory Velvet Wedges)

These heels are something.  They make you look like you have legs up to your chin.  When I visited the Theory boutique on Melrose this past summer I instantly fell in love with them and put the final pair in my size on hold.  I got home a few hours late to five voicemails.  I had been called repeatedly by the boutique girls to check if I still wanted them because paying customers were there desperately trying to buy them.  Some things are just meant to be…

Small caveat: they force you to walk in a sort of strut because it is nearly impossible to do a heel to toe step in them.  Note to self: keep practicing a my somewhat sloppy imitation of a model-esque lope.

black knight

(A Metal Shoulder Shirt, Black Milk Sheer Maxi Skirt)

I went pretty simple for today’s outfit, and this worked perfectly in the perfect sunny, breezy weather.  I had to throw on a jacket when it cooled down at night, though.

I really love this shirt because it has this fine black chain mail on the shoulders, which you can’t see too well in these photos.  Makes me feel a little bolder, a little like a black knight.  It’s also a men’s shirt.  I love men’s clothing.  My shoulders are broad, so men’s shirts tend to drape nicely.

Almost the weekend!  Can’t wait…

chanel ss2012 + take me by the sea

I’m really loving how minimal Karl went with the Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Chanel.  Like many other designers, he definitely took some elements of the nautical and the ocean to create a really dreamy feel.  Add Florence Welch’s performance and you’ve got the perfect beach excursion on your hands.

I’m also loving all the Victoria’s Secret Angels popping up on the runways.  I’m a huge fan of Candice Swanepoel and Miranda Kerr, and they really are so lovely.

sorry about the wait…

(T by Alexander Wang Shadowstripe Tank, One Teaspoon Sweater Duster, H&M Leggings, Jeffrey Campbell Boots)

My outfit today minus the shoes, which I threw on just for these shots.  Not that I wouldn’t have worn these all day, I do quite frequently.  Trust JC to come through and make some amazingly comfortable platforms though, these puppies are a surefire way to feel amazing about your legs.  It took several attempts to get them off of Solestruck, they sell out so fast.

I’m still kind of swamped at school, but it looks like the hard work is paying off.  I didn’t even have time to find a place with good lighting so these were taken in the halls of my apartment building.  Not a great turnout, but I thought it was overdue for an update.  I’m also sorting through my favorites from Paris Fashion Week, which include some Vanessa Bruno, Ann Demeulmeester, and surprisingly a couple pieces from Kanye West’s debut show.  More on that later.
