So, a few weeks back I was uncommonly lucky to be invited to the Theyskens’ Theory Fall 2012 preview at its newly expanded store on Melrose. The samples were exceptional; the quality, cut, and materials were perhaps the most impressive yet. Although I tend to stick to the accessories for my own closet, here were my top picks for purchase come fall. Particularly in love with the leather boyfriend pants, gold illusion heels, and the silver leather jacket, although god knows I’d love to be able to slip into the beaded dress and jacket.
I made it just in time to say hello to the genius behind the brand. I was tongue-tied and barely managed to request to take a photo with him, in which he is looking handsome but I am not. Still, it was a moment worth commemorating.
Had a paper and a life to tend to last night and I had a good feeling Versace for H&M would be mostly gone by the time I ventured out today around noon. Not only was I correct, but apparently they sold out of EVERYTHING within an hour at the Americana at Brand. Not too shabby, Donatella!
That said, I mostly had my eye on the metal mesh dresses and the black and gold skirt/leather jackets which I had a feeling would not be obtained without an early attack on the store. I would be more crushed, but at $300 for the dresses etc I think my money will be saved and spent on mainline pieces from brands that I love as they go on sale for the holidays. Or the off chance that an ebay sale on one of these V for H&M pieces isn’t astronomical…
New outfit photos tomorrow!
PS Forgot to add that I stopped at Madewell and discovered many pieces from the Alexa Chung line were on sale, sweaters were just below $100 and that gorgeous pajama top was $200. Go snap them up!
Reading The Great Gatsby in one of my literature classes, for probably the umpteenth time, but it never fails to fascinate. The pared down opulence of the twenties had me really loving the SS2012 Ralph Lauren collection. Unsurprisingly he did the the costumes for the original film adaptation of Gatsby. I’m sure Baz Luhrman’s upcoming adaptation, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular character, Carey Mulligan as Daisy, and Tobey Maguire as the narrator Tom Carraway, will take some costume cues from Lauren.
Also, the fashion of the 20s makes for awesome Halloween costumes. I haven’t picked a theme yet but this seems totally wearable past the night of, don’t you think?
Also reminded me of the beautiful shoot that Grace Coddington put together for Vogue a few years back that was featured in the film The September Issue…as well as this archival photo that popped up on Vogue.Com today…
Speaking of outerwear for this fall that is way, way, way out of my price range, take a look at these poncho/cape jackets from Alexander Wang(above) and Rag & Bone(below). Somehow they manage to look both effortless and completely glamorous and edgy at the same time. Think of how easy it would be to just throw one of these over a whatever kind of outfit and BAM you’ve got something sophisticated and sexy. I also really love how the ponchos combine textures and materials to create something more unique than a jacket. If only they weren’t all 1000+… Outerwear this fall kind of expects you to not have any money to spend on what goes on underneath, sheesh. But naked+Alexander Wang poncho jacket? I’d do it.
Did anyone else notice the sudden change in mood and air? I feel like fall has finally arrived and my choice of wardrobe has changed along with it. I was flipping through some magazines and definitely felt the impending coat/hat/boot season on its way.
One of my favorite fall pieces so far is the Pendleton Southwestern Ranch Coat. It’s not pictured here but it features shearling around the collar and hits the top of the thighs. If it wasn’t $600+ I’d be jumping on it right now…
And on a side note I found a photographer! Expect new stuff soon.
(Alexa Chung for Madewell)
Is anyone else impressed by the line Alexa and Madewell have collaborated on? It was just released yesterday and already many items are sold out and popping up on Ebay. I am particularly loving the sweaters, jackets, and dresses. And those leopard print shoes…! I’ve had the longest week ever at school, with papers coming out of my ears and nose, but just watching this promotional video made me feel rather refreshed and optimistic for the weekend, even though I still have a lot more work to go.
That said, I know there haven’t been any personal posts for most of the week, I’m trying to figure out some stuff for this weekend so I can squeeze a photo sess in. Happy Friday all!
The only evidence thus far of Tom Ford’s super secretive SS2012 collection is this photo of the model board that has been circulating around. His move to keep things private is decidedly in opposition to the work of other designers to bring their designs to the masses either through social media or lower-priced ranges. Either way, I’m sure plenty of people would have killed to be sitting in on his show!
